Drawings or painting of deceased animals are very emotional for the owners, and challenging for the artist as often the photos are hard to come by and therefore I am relying on the owner's memory for the exact colour. Another hurdle was to have the animals facing the direction that was needed to get a good, balanced composition. So this this case I wanted the cat Molly to be facing Holly on the right. Anyhow, that was overcome and I am happy to say that this portrait was well received.
This pen & ink drawing was the first stage of the artwork, after the layout has been decided upon ... and agreed upon by the client.
This is the photo of Cooper - now deceased -cropped from the original.
Holly - again cropped from the original, where the owner was holding her.
This photo had to be flipped , but making sure that her white patches were on the correct sides.
